Last Meeting and Last Blog Post!

Hey everyone!
As you saw in the e-mail, this is the last blog post, so please put some effort into it. All of these posts will be collected and presented to LHSP!

Blog Topic: As we saw with the pancakes, something plain can be transformed into something completely new and original, whether by toppings or cooking style. The same can be said about art! For this week's blog, please research one modern example of how a traditional form of art has been transformed or adapted to a new format.

Happy Blogging!

  1. I think we all know that the Mona Lisa is a very well known and classic piece of art. That being said, because it so celebrated and famous, this wonderful piece of artwork has been transformed into new forms that are not necessarily "art." This painting has been turned into many different consumer- items such as cookie jars, bottle caps, postcards, puzzles, and more. These items, though they may not be considered art, have allowed this painting to be celebrated in new forms that consumers can buy and appreciate within their homes. The Mona Lisa has also been adapted into paintings that "play" with different aspects of the painting and change them to give the painting a new meaning. Artists have made Mona Lisa look like a man by adding a mustache and playing with her facial features to make her more masculine. Other artists have added humor to her by making her smile more prominent by her showing her teeth, since the look on her face has fascinated so many people. Some artists have even gone so far as to change the subject of the painting to an animal like a gorilla. All of these adapted pieces of art represent how this celebrated painting is so important to our society and how it inspires us to think and create in original and innovative ways.

  2. I believe a way traditional art is transformed is through spray paint art. As shown on youtube this new method of art is an incredibly cool and interesting way to create art that before only computers could make. This takes the traditional idea of graffiti and changes it to make it into more of an art form. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv8kNTH-KDY&feature=relmfu

  3. Something as simple as a blog is a great example of how a traditional art form, writing in this case, has transformed throughout the years. A blog allows anyone, with or without an English degree, to publish their work on the internet. As a result, some of the basic conventions of writing has either been transfigured or forgone all together as people cater their blogs to their own interests. In addition, blogs have a become a melange of graphic design and diction as writing today often requires pictures to entertain a modern audience.
